4 Common Problems Every Destination Wedding Planner Encounters — And How To Solve Them

February 15, 2019 by Events & Logistics

Why are destination weddings gaining popularity among soon-to-be married couples? Perhaps it’s because it combines two separate entities that spark happiness, excitement and happy memories – travel and wedding. However, planning a destination wedding can also be tricky. Below are some common problems that destination wedding planners might encounter and tips on how to work avoid them.

Picking A Destination

One common problem is choosing a destination and planning everything, up to the smallest details, from far away. It can be considered as a long distance relationship between the planner and suppliers, which can be quite tricky especially if the planner does not have established suppliers in the area. The best thing to counter this bump is to research and do some thorough background checking about the place, the suppliers, the weather, etc.

Fewer Supplier Options

Planning a wedding in an unfamiliar place usually narrows down the suppliers available for the couple. More often than not, destination wedding planners rely on the hotel’s recommendations when it comes to wedding suppliers. If the couple is requesting for more supplier options, destination wedding planners can scour the internet or interview locals to get a longer list of supplier options.

Capturing The Moment

A destination wedding needs the perfect photographer to capture every moment – the view, the ceremony up to the smallest details of the bride’s bouquet. If a couple is a bit hesitant to hire a local photographer in their destination wedding, you can always suggest that they fly in the photographer of their choice.

Who Pays For What?

Having a wedding in a dream destination may sometimes be a point of concern for some couples who are working on a budget. There seems to be an unwritten question about what exactly does the couple have to pay for? Basically, the couple is expected to be in charge of the food, events and pre or post-wedding activities. The guests, on the other hand, are expected to foot the bill for their lodging and transportation expenses.
