Steps to Planning a Successful Startup Event

May 6, 2018 by Events & Logistics

Startups don’t exactly have that kind of marketing budget like huge companies. This is the reason why small companies that are just starting out must have a lot of energy and creativity to market their products and services efficiently.

One way of doing that is by conducting promotional events. Events are the best way to meet customers and potential investors face-to-face. This is how startup companies can take control of their brand and establish the message they want to put out to the world.

To have an entertaining, productive, and successful startup event, here are some pointers you need to consider.

Know Your Objective and Set a Goal

What is the reason for your event? Are you testing out a product? Get new customers? Drive sales? Knowing what your goal is will help you plan out your event. For example, you plan on giving away free sample. Although this trick is a good way to gain feedback, remember that it’s not the way to drive sales, at least not immediately. Make sure your objective matches the type of event you’re planning to deliver.

Organize Your Social Media Posts

Email marketing, Instagram countdowns, and Facebook posts are the most efficient ways to get people talking these days. But social media postings are critical on timing. You’re lucky if you have nothing else to do and posts on all of your accounts daily, but wouldn’t it be better if you create content ahead of time?

Your posts can also be scheduled so you don’t have to manually do them. Use sites like Sprout Social to help you schedule your posts and create the buzz you want to get people interested in your event and inform them what it’s all about.

Make it Personal

You can always get someone to plan the event for you, but for a startup company, remember that event planners cost money. If you can’t shell out a dime for these services, be your own brand ambassador. Tell people about your event starting with family and friends. Use your personal social media accounts online to spread the news or blog about your company.

Most companies hold events in conference rooms, hotels, or bars, and that’s okay. These places are convenient and are always handy, but have you considered doing your event in a rather unique location? It doesn’t have to be far from where your company is based. Instead of the usual indoor locations, try outdoor locations like an open bar or the beach. Unexpected locations create a sense of curiosity.

Avoid Event Conflicts

Remember that you are a startup and you’re likely in the infancy stage of your business. That said, you don’t want other major events to conflict with yours. For example, a lot of events coincide with the start of the season, especially during summers where calendars are nearly packed with activities. Schedule your event on a date where people will notice it and not completely overlook it.

Be a Person People Want to Be With

Business events don’t have to choke on formality. In fact, people like these events more when people from the company are able to connect with them in a casual but genuine way. As the organizer and the head of the company, show interest in whoever you are dealing with. When you are heavily invested in each client, they’re more likely to stick to you and the brand you are promoting.

Beyond the event you’re planning, remember that the type of person you are matters. Make sure people see that.
