Product launches are important for large companies since it gives them the opportunity to market their
product. These events give the public and the media an opportunity to know more about the product
before any reviews are given.
Purpose
Product launch events are held to introduce a product to investors. Usually, new products are introduced in shareholder meetings. This gives the shareholders the opportunity to see and test the product before it is launched to the general public. For some products, a company may choose to create a huge product-launching event wherein the shareholder finds out about the product together with the company’s customers and the media.
Another purpose of these product-launching events is to introduce a product to old customers and new ones as well. This event does not necessarily have to be a formal one. Product launching can be in a form of a booth set up in a large fair or expo, or it can be through an ad campaign. Although these events can be small, it still requires thorough planning to make sure there is enough space, and displays and decorations are set up.
Also, these events are held to introduce the product to the media. This may be through a press conference, depending on the company size and the product that’s to be launched. In most cases, companies just set an event and invite the media.
Planning for a Successful Product Launch</strong
There are a lot of elements to be considered to make sure a product launch is successful
- Location
Most events for product launching happen in cities where the company is located. Sometimes these events can be held in convention halls to accommodate shareholders, the media, and the general public. However, some product launches can be held in meeting rooms of corporate offices. The venue for the event depends on how big the company is and how much money the company wants to spend for marketing their product.
- Time
Launching of a product may depend on a season or may be launched on big sports events. For example, launching a new energy drink during the World Series or during the Super Bowl can create a buzz since millions of people watch these events. Airing commercials of the new product during these events can be a good way to introduce your product to the general public.
- Food
If the company wants to serve food during the product launch, the planner needs to think what type of food will be served. Is it going to be cocktails, finger-foods or a full-course meal? The time of day for the product launch should also be considered, as well as the attendees for the event so that the event manager will know how much food should be ordered or will there be a need for wait staff for such event?
- Details
This may not seem like a big of a deal but small details for this type of event can make or break its success. These minor details include seating. Imagine attending a product launch for a computer operating system without having chairs to sit on. Also, product launches may include information packets or pamphlets to be given to guests. These packages need to be ready and should be enough for all the participants of the product launch. The event manager is the one responsible for taking care of these small details.
Product launches are one of the most exciting occasions for event managers. Though it may be a bit stressful, the key to a successful product launch is just proper planning.
