5 Social Media NEVERs To Promoting Your Event

March 22, 2018 by Events & Logistics

Social media plays a key role in promoting your event. It is one of the fastest ways to spread the word and targets a wide range of audience. This method of promotion can excite your audience, help spread information, and encourage potential attendees to join. However, before posting any ad or promoting your event online, you must take note of a few things and follow some important guidelines because this can either drive your potential attendees away or attract them.

1. Do not Spam

Avoid being repetitive and do not over-market your event up to the point where it feels like it’s already spam. If you over-promote on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc., it can get old fast. Share information that is only related to the event that your targeted audience may find interesting and valuable. Promoting on social media does not only highlight the event itself and raise ticket sales, but it also promotes the brand and the identity of the event organizer.

2. Be present in different social media platforms

Do not forget to use a mix of different social media websites. Do not just focus on one platform. Although Facebook and Twitter are the most popular choices to begin with, there are also other networking sites you can use to advertise your event. There’s Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, Google+, and many more sites that you can take advantage of. When choosing the social media site, always keep in mind what kind of audience you want to target and what the nature of your event is. There are also social media management tools that you can use to help you manage your different social media accounts.

3. Do not abandon your webpages.

Do not disregard any updates. From the start of the event planning process to the end of the entire event and even days or weeks after that, you must always keep your webpages updated with fresh information. Forgetting about your social network gives an impression that the event may have been forgotten, as well. It may also reflect what type of event organizer you are.

Posting regularly and responding to questions on your page is essential. During the event itself, post live videos to keep your social networks active. You can share updates, photos, and more. After the event, you can continue to post photos and other things that happened. This keeps your social media page moving and relevant. It is also the perfect way to keep your audience in the loop for the next upcoming happenings.

4. Keep your social media pages professional.

Do not neglect the image of your social media pages. Always keep your page professional-looking by adding an appropriate profile and cover photo. Clear and high-quality images provide a good impression and using your logo for the event can help increase brand recognition. Also make sure to fill out necessary information about the location and what the event is all about to provide your followers with information that they may be looking for. Don’t forget to add a contact number in your profile.

5. Hashtags

Do not go overboard and using too many hashtags. Although hashtags can be very helpful to network and spread the word, there are some social media sites that do not rely on these. Putting too many hashtags can be irritating to read and look at. Just pick a few ones that are relevant, or hashtags that can also maximize its impact. Use a hashtag that identifies the event and then select a few to represent that targeted audience.
