7 Things Wedding Organizers Should Have In Their Kit For The Big Day

February 22, 2018 by Events & Logistics

The wedding planner’s job is extra tough because it has so many moving elements. These include looking for the right venue, figuring out the best music, food, decorations and invitations to order, and doing all these alongside a hyper-excited (sometimes agitated) bride. The string of challenges don’t end with the invites are finally sent out and the catering service has been booked. Because there are no “take-twos” and “re-dos” with weddings, you also need to make sure the bride and her groom are having the most awesome day of their life.

Even the seasoned pros are not immune to the occasional break downs and other supplier or logistic glitch. While you can’t really predict when something doesn’t go according to plan, you can definitely make sure that you are prepared for whatever it is that’s coming. Come wedding day, when these “emergencies” happen, the pro wedding planner knows to have these seven things in his or her on-the-day kit so that everything stays picture perfect.

  1. Safety pins, double-side fabric tape, and hem tape

These should come in black, white, ecru to cover pants and dresses without being conspicuous. You never know when a hem will become undone or a neckline will need fixing. This set will help you deal with those common wardrobe malfunctions that may cause a lot of stress not just to the bride but the rest of the entourage. Every couple wants a perfect wedding and, as the planner, you should never allow your clients’ special day to be ruined just because a piece of fabric was out of place.

  1. Acetaminophen or paracetamol

These pain relieves are both generally easy on the stomach and will address those on-the-day headaches related to wedding jitters and stress. Add to this list chewable antacids and anti-diarrheal medication, for those urgent and potentially embarrasing situations.

  1. Facial blotting sheets

Ensure that the couple and entourage look consistent fresh and picture-ready by making sure no T-zones are oily. This applies to both female and male attendees.

  1. Tweezers

This tool comes handy in case of runaway eyebrow hairs. It’s also useful for taking care of splinters, particularly in themes where the entourage and guests have to go barefoot.

  1. Moleskin bandages of different sizes

These will help you ease or prevent blisters caused by wearing new pairs of shoes, which is one of the most common wedding-day problems.

  1. Hard candy

This is important to address those common physiologic situations related to the jitters, such as sudden low blood sugar, dry mouth, or bad breath. In this case, your hard candy should either be sweet or minty.

  1. White chalk

A bride in distress is a failed event — and you simply cannot allow that to happen. White chalk will help you mask those stains on her white dress in an instant. This is evidently a temporary fix, but it can do so much in averting a major meltdown.

Other wedding day “must-haves” that planners should have include anti-static spray (to prevent clothes from clinging onto the skin), pins and green floral tape (for fixing up boutonniere’s, corsages, and bouquets), and cotton swabs (for those makeup mishaps like smudged mascara or too much blush). Having the necessary tools and supplies to tackle common problems are a key part of the organizer’s job. While they don’t always happen, it will be smart for your business to already be prepared.
