How about Hawaiian Theme Decor for your next event? How do you make a tropical destination like Florida feel even more tropical? Host a Hawaiian-themed event at a luxury resort!
One of my favorite event spaces is the Don CeSar Hotel, also known as the “Pink Palace,” which is an iconic hotel that grandly sits on the sands of St. Pete Beach in the Tampa Bay-area. The historic, 277-room hotel was built in 1928, has undergone major renovations over the last few years (it’s also under new ownership), and makes for a stunning backdrop for any party or special event.
Recently, Events & Logistics hosted a Hawaiian-themed event, with a “tiki-chic” twist, at the historic hotel. There were 300 guests in attendance and the evening soiree took place at the pool, which offers a view of the beach and a tropical vibe reminiscent of Hawaii. It honestly feels like a private piece of paradise.
Upon arrival, guests were immediately transported to Hawaii. They were greeted with an “Aloha,” and like a traditional luau, they were given a flower lei to use as a headband or necklace. The island-inspired fete’s backdrop consisted of a volcano and a Hawaiian gods faux-background, along with colorful pink, orange and yellow lanterns and upside down umbrellas hanging from a bamboo entrance and over the dining area for a breezy island flair. Tablescapes were created with pineapples and bright tropical flowers (By the way, did you know that the hibiscus is the official flower of Hawaii?), and tables were draped in tropical-themed fabric.
Excitement was in the air thanks to an amazing 7-piece band that featured Top 40 tunes, along with a traditional Hawaiian show featuring hula dancers and fire dancers. A woman dressed in a traditional hula outfit that doubled as a table skirt (it looked like a grass skirt), offered a unique way for guests to grab cake for dessert. Live birds, such as parrots, added to the tropical theme, allowing guests the opportunity to take a photo with them perched on their shoulders or arms.
If you use nature as inspiration and keep the décor classy instead of kitschy, you’re sure to get a “Mahalo” (thank you) from guests at your next Hawaiian-themed party.
