Just last week, the Apple Watch hit the market after much anticipation by those who love all things tech. Although the watch is attractive as a piece of functional jewelry, it’s also expected to have an impact on not only its wearers, but business – in a big way. At Events & Logistics, we believe that this amazing new “smartwatch” will also have a sizeable impact on the events industry, including corporate meetings and events. While we cater to social groups and companies/corporations who choose Miami as their event destination, we thought it would be interesting to share just a few of the ways this new watch may impact the events/meeting industry.
Travel will be less of a hassle as wearers attending events can use apps from Tripit and airlines to check on the schedule of flights, display boarding passes, and more.
Hotel check-in. While not all do, some hotels allow guests to check in using an app. Even better, instead of using a keycard (which can get lost or malfunction), some rooms may be accessed by simply holding your watch up to the door lock! Amazing.
Just a quick glance at your Apple Watch will make social media easier than ever. Attendees can easily view Twitter streams to stay on top of a conference hashtag, and even be notified each time another conference attendee sends a connection request via LinkedIn.
Conference or convention attendees won’t have to constantly access their phones, and therefore can focus more on networking. Beacons offer location-based alerts, so last minute room changes won’t be a problem. In the case of trade shows, it is expected exhibitors will no longer have to wear a barcode around their neck for scanning, but can instead use their watch. Staying in touch with other conference attendees will be simple, considering there will be no texting on a smartphone necessary – communications go straight to attendees’ wrists!
Event organizers can send push notifications to attendees without the worry of the notification being missed due to a phone being in a pocket or purse, where the notification may go unnoticed.
Ultimately, the new Apple Watch will likely be used in unimaginable ways to create better experiences for those attending events not only in Miami, but all around the globe.
